What to Say (& Not Say) to Someone Who Lost a Pet. When I saw friend Rich Baumer post news on FB of the loss of his BBF dog “Ollie” who he’d taken with him everywhere for 14 years (including the radio studio) my heart sank for him and his family. I’m aware the death of a pet is devastating. Even if you’ve been through it yourself, it’s difficult to know what to say when someone you know experiences the death of a pet, says Pet advice expert Steven May in a piece on Care2.com where he offers some great insight on what to say and do. He didn’t say invite your friend to come talk about it on a radio show but that’s what I decided would distract Rich and cheer him up since he loves to do radio. On the show we discuss his sad loss and discuss what to say and not to say to anyone who loses a pet. Here’s one line you can feel free to use, “Your pet was so lucky to have you.” Tune in 10-11am est.
