Years ago ‘licensing guru’ gal pal Alita Friedman of #alitasbrandbarstarted telling me about #uglydolls. UGLY DOLLS? I didn’t get it. In fact, I secretly threw out the promotional’ ugly doll keychains’ she gave me because… well they were UGLY. LOL. (Sorry bout that Alita) I’m usually a pretty quick study but I initially missed the point that’s so obvious now. UGLY DOLLS and the Town of UGLYVILLE are where weird is celebrated, strange is special and beauty is embraced as more than simply meets the eye. Fast forward from 2001 to 2018 and UGLY DOLLS the Movie is on the way! Alita was involved early on the licensing on this and joins the show today talk UGLY and educate us on ‘licensing’ in the toy industry and beyond.
BTW: UGLY DOLLS the animated musical adventure will star the acting and singing voices of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and Pitbull. The film is inspired by the unique and beloved global plush toy phenomenon launched in 2001.
