Jeffrey Bingham Mead is the whole shebang! Educator, Author, Businessman, Historian, Traveler of the world. Jeffrey is from Greenwich, Connecticut but also has a home in Hawaii, which he uses when he wants to jump off and explore Asia. He says, “People and cultures are coming together as never before. Traveling in this era surely rocks my world”. He hopes his stories and narratives do the same for you, too! His father, Herbert Bingham Mead, served in the U.S. 1st Marine Division in China 1945-1947. A member of “America’s Greatest Generation,” his wish was for Jeffrey, to research and publish a book on those extraordinary days when he and his comrades were stationed in Tianjin and Beijing, China. His history blog is about those extraordinary men in post-World War II China -and the people of China who endured and befriended them.
His history blog, My Dad the U.S. China Marine, (http://mydadtheuschinamarine.blogspot.com
) attracted the attention and interest of other China Marine descendants and others including the Chinese community worldwide. Stories in his research have appeared in Chinese-language WorldJournal.com
and ChinaPress.com
, as well as Greenwich Time.
As a result of his interest and work, the Chinese government through its consulate in New York City extended an official invitation to Mead to attend the September 3 Victory Day commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the surrender of the Empire of Japan in 1945. He represented his late father and the U.S. China Marines.
