Am I The Only Idiot Who Had 38 Years To Find Pair of Solar Glasses To Watch Today’s Sight of a Lifetime And Now Can’t Look? A total solar eclipse from coast to coast. A spectacle for which I have no spectacles! For 2 hours and 38 minutes today I will be really annoyed at myself. It is NOT SAFE TO LOOK AT THE SUN AT ANY TIME DURING THIS EVENT WITHOUT SPECIAL APPROVED SOLAR GLASSES which were sold out everywhere that I went. A Total Eclipse Of the Sun?
in the NY area will be visible starting at 1:23 p.m. today with a partial eclipse. Peak viewing time with about 71 percent coverage expected will be around 2:44 p.m. The event will wrap up at around 3:59 p.m. with a partial eclipse. Connecticut, according to eclipse2017.org, will experience an approximately 68 percent eclipse. The partial phases will start at 1:25 p.m. It will then reach a maximum effacement of the sun’s disk at 2:45 p.m. and end around at 4 p.m.

BEST DESCRIPTION OF AN ECLIPSE goes to GreatAmericanEclipse.com

“An eclipse is a cosmic billiard shot – the Sun The Moon and Earth line up to reveal the suns atmosphere, it’s corona. Eclipse on earth only occur because of an amazing celestial coincidence.”

Here’s How You Can View Eclipse Without Soldout Solar Glasses, New Rochelle

Turn your back to the sun and moon, raise your mobile phone in selfie position and watch the eclipse through your phone. You can even snap some photos. But there are also important safety tips if you go the selfie route you can read by clicking here. Experts also warn aiming the lense of the phone at the sun for too long a period of time may damage the lens. Joe Lombardi NewRochelle Daily Voice

NASA SUGGESTED THIS HOMEMADE VIEWING TRICK:
Make a pinhole camera with a few common items
NASA suggests cutting a square hole in the middle of a piece of white card stock, then taping a pice of aluminum foil over the hole . Poke a small hole in the foil with a pin or paper clip. Put a second piece of white card stock on the ground and hold the piece with the foil above it, allowing the sun to project through the hole onto the card on the ground. The farther away you hold the ‘camera ‘ the larger the image will be. Chicagotribune.com
