Ruth Sutcliffe

Off The Charts Pollen Counts Have left Me Without a Nose! Fortunately I have another one handy. Her name is Ruth Sutcliffe, (pals call her ‘the nose’) and she truly is one of a select group of ‘noses’ in the fragrance industry! Ruth is a Fragrance Expert, Designer and Writer! And she’s in the studio with me today!

With over 25 years in the fragrance industry, Ruth Sutcliffe has lent her expertise in the development of fragrances for end-uses as diverse as soaps and detergents, candles and air fresheners and fine perfume. At Coty Inc. Ruth worked on various lifestyle and celebrity brands such as Beyonce, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Guess and Nautica. Before Coty, Ruth spent several years at Clairol, and at various fragrance supply houses where she developed household and personal care products such as classic (blue) Windex, Soft Soap, as well as air care products for S.C.Johnson. and co-author of a patent while working at International Flavors and Fragrances for an odor neutralizer called NeutrIFF. For Ruth, creating beauty and 

Ruth holds a B.S. in Business Administration, and is an active member of several industry organizations such as the Cosmetic Executive Women, Women in Flavors and Fragrances, and the Fashion Group International. Since 2001, Ruth has mentored students within the Cosmetic and Fragrance Marketing Program at FIT, and is a member of its advisory board. In 2008, she was awarded “Woman of the Year” by the WFFC. She has also been asked to speak at many industry events, with the most recent being the World Perfumery Congress in Deauville, France. 

In her personal life, Ruth is an active volunteer for various cultural, environmental and AIDS causes. She is a freelance writer, and a food and service consultant for a large NY restaurant association. 

Even though Ruth has lived in Greenwich, CT since 1997, she considers herself a “global” citizen, who has spent several years living in France, loves being anywhere in Italy, and enjoys adventure travel to faraway places such as Tibet, Kenya, and most recently, Zanzibar and Rwanda.
