Random Run In! A Midwife! As the story goes my Grandma Nigro who had 8 kids, named my Aunt Eleanor after the Midwife who delivered her. Eleanor, the midwife, was the mother of Captain Lou Albano. Go Figure! For those of you who don’t know, the word Midwife derives from Old English mid, “with” and wif, “woman”, and thus originally meant “with-woman”, that is, the person who is with the mother (woman) at childbirth. (according to Wikipedia). Today on the show you’ll meet Rosemarie Hornak, a mid-wife who works in an inner-city hospital in New Jersey who I ran into. ‘Ro’ graduated from Columbia Graduate School for midwifery in 1993 after being a nurse for 13 years. She had a private practice for 2 years and then settled in working in a University hospital with a midwifery group when she decided to start her own family. She’s worked there for the past 23 years . Midwives care for all women throughout the lifecycle providing Gynecological/ Pregnancy care and delivery. There’s also a Gynecological teen clinic which provides gynecological care for young girls. Rosemarie happy to connect with anyone who would like to know more about midwifery. Feel free to contact her Rohornak@me.com.
