Timely that my dear friend Montgomery Delaney was set to be my in studio guest today, before the tragic news of the massacre in Las Vegas rang out in the night. Monty has dedicated his entire professional life to the service and protection of others. As an attorney, he’s passionate about helping people rebuild their lives after they have been seriously injured, arrested or otherwise damaged or victimized by others. “Monty’ a former United States Marine and former New York City Police Officer has seen it all – almost. We spoke of whether police could have suspected that the Las Vegas gunman 64 year old Stephen Paddock, was capable of such horror. Monty’s background lent insight. The gunman was not known to authorities. The tragic location of the massacre was a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, a place I’ve been to twice in the last few months. I made a conscious observation one day while walking the strip in Vegas, of a collective vulnerable sea of humanity I sensed might be compromised one day during these uncertain times. My heart sank upon the news.
Monty and I also spoke today of the Supreme Court, as every Oct. a new session begins, and this year with it’s new conservative majority, how they might will tackle major cases. Monty’s run for the NYS Supreme Court in the 9th J.D. lent some insight. Monty was also a coach, so we hit a bit on the FBI investigation into college basketball recruiting . And since Monty is the most soulful singer songwriter ever, we played an apropos track for humanity today called ‘Grace’ from his latest CD. A poignant vignette of life ?on dark day.

I asked Monty to come up with my end of show “Daily Toast’ inspirational send off today, and it was meaningful so I’m posting it here.

“A toast to the amazing people who are at this moment giving aid and comfort to the victims in Las Vegas…They are looking fear in the eye right now – with grace.” – Montgomery Delaney
