You’re Only As Sick As Your Secrets . “Loneliness cuts life expectancy by about the same amount as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and more than obesity. It is also associated with a greater risk of heart disease, depression, anxiety and dementia.” This story got louder in my head as I read author Jayne O’Donnell‘s words. Important Wellness Wednesday topic. “None of us really knows what anyone else is going through unless we take the time to ask — and actually wait for an answer. ” She went on to say, “We’re more connected — online — than ever. But, often, we forget the true meaning and importance of connection. It’s no accident that we’re also more stressed, sick, depressed and addicted — often since data have been collected. Opioids are getting the attention, but far more Americans are dying of alcohol-related illness. USA TODAY printed the piece below “As A Loneliness Epidemic rages, you’re only as sick as your secrets ” worth your time to read.
So how do we turn this around?
USA TODAY just launched an ” I Survived It Facebook group”. @MabintyQuarshiw and Jayne O’Donnell co-moderate
the group intended to give readers and others a new outlet for their anguish and a source for solutions. They’ve brought together leading experts — professional, personal or both — on mental health, addiction, social isolation, domestic violence, suicide, child loss and other life challenges. They aim to create a greater sense (and the reality) of community, both online and off. Great Start! Good Luck Gals!

I’ve noticed a trend. There are many unspoken troubles and concerns behind all the pretty Facebook photos and we all seek answers to ‘questions’ and concerns . Many who seek guidance for their concerns and troubles are seeking the wisdom and guidance of those outside the medical community who would not be considered ‘mainstream’. Because I know a lot of people as a result of what I do here on my talk show everyday, I personally know many who call themselves “intuitives”, “energy healers’, ‘readers’,’ mediums’ etc. Many have confided in me they often struggle personally with some of the concerns and issues clients come to them that are ‘serious’. Serious as in a medical or emotional issue that professionals would be more qualified to help with. Lisa Salvatore who is an intuitive reader/ energy healer has generously agreed to join me on the show today to be candid about her escalating challenges in this area and how it is affecting her. BTW Lisa is a huge advocate for traditional therapy and explains how she helps her clients and what she hears that she sometimes finds ‘difficult’.
