‘HOW NOT TO DANCE OLD’ is today’s theme on the show!
I’m going to learn in real time how to step up my dance game today on the show with the help of some talented young choreographers my daughter ran into at a car wash (The ‘Random Run In’ gene is apparently genetic). But first, a quick review of how people in America have been expressing themselves through dance from the 1920s to the 2000s.
The 20’s had the shimmy, the Charleston, and there were Gatsby parties. Dance Contests were ‘dance marathons’. In the late 20’s came the tango and the waltz. In the 1930s and 1940s had jazz and swing dancing, from the jitterbug to the Lindy hop. The 1950s brought us the bop, dirty dancing and Elvis’s rocking pelvis. Most dances in the 1960s didn’t include a dance partner, like the Mashed Potato, the Fly, the Monkey and the Funky Chicken. Over 400 new dances were introduced in the ’60s. The 1970s was the disco era, and we learned the hustle, the YMCA, and soul train lines. Break dancing was a huge craze in the 1980s, street dancing was born as was punk and heavy metal ‘moshing’. And lets not forget the Lambada! The 1990s was the era of hip hop and line dancing and dances like the tootsie roll, the running man, and the all important macarena! The early 2000’s signature dances were throwbacks like “crank that Soulja Boy,” “the lean wit it rock wit it,” “teach me how to dougie,” and shuffling. Now Celebrity hit singles and rocking dance moves from videos are what we all try and emulate.

How you doin? Wanna learn some new moves? Today is your lucky day! Tune in! Video will follow!

‘HOW NOT TO DANCE OLD’.

My daughter Alexis had a ‘Random Run In’ at the car wash with Choreographer Michael Salem and his dance boys. She called me from the car wash and said “Ma” you gotta have these guys on your show – they’re amazing. Ok! They’re ON!

Today you’ll meet Michael who is an International Choreographer/Artist/DJ/Group Fitness Personal Trainer. He’s 26 and has been teaching since he was 16. He took the money he made working in famous music videos and opened up Infinite Motion Studios in Eastchester NY. Today Michael, and his boys KIBA and Hanu and Impact, all join me in the studio to talk dance, entrepreneurship, connecting people through their passion and teaching us all how to dance for fitness and pleasure.

Tune in 10: 20am eastern to meet them then stay tuned to watch them teach me.
