I Sat On The Steps Outside Barnes & Noble On A Recent Evening And Listened To Georgette Gouveia read excerpts from her latest novel, “The Penalty For Holding”. Boy can she write! It was the her latest in book series ‘The Games Men Play’. I’ve known Georgette as editor-in-chief of WAG, a luxury lifestyle publication that’s been named “Best Magazine” by the New York Press Association for the past two years. But I’m getting to know her better as a unique author. What sets Georgette apart are her characters ? professional gay athletes ? who test their rivalries and relationships, navigate their public and private identity, and journey through love and loss.
Georgette Gouveia was also an Associated Press Award-winning senior cultural writer with Gannett Inc. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied with short story writer Grace Paley. She is also lover and expert on Alexander the Great and the ancient Greek culture. She joins me today on the show at 10:20am eastern.
